COST. COMPETITIVENESS. CAPABILITY.

How Truma strengthened procurement, delivered immediate savings, developed a Value Creation Plan and supported the long-term competitiveness of its Putzbrunn production base.

The Situation

MARKET BOOM TO MARGIN PRESSURE

Truma is a family-owned system supplier to the caravaning industry, with more than 700 employees and production in Putzbrunn near Munich. The business grew strongly during the pandemic as demand for caravans and motorhomes surged, driving sales of Truma’s heating and air conditioning products.

As the market normalised, high inventories and softer demand put pressure on revenue and margins. At the same time, lower-cost Asian competitors were becoming more capable, increasing pressure on a business committed to maintaining production in Germany.

THE CHALLENGE

GOOD IDEAS NEED MOMENTUM

Truma had already begun pursuing material cost reductions, but many ideas had not progressed into implementation. Strategic savings levers were not yet being used systematically, while long-standing supplier relationships limited competitive tension in parts of the supply base.

Procurement was also heavily occupied with day-to-day demands and lacked a shared view of its future role. H&Z was brought in to turn Truma’s ambition into a broader, actionable programme, drawing on deep procurement and cost reduction experience.

Realised savings through Supplier Days with 29 suppliers, delivering ≈4% savings

30+

Initiatives identified for future procurement excellence, including a new mission statement and shared procurement identity

What is the impact

A STRONGER ROLE FOR PROCUREMENT

Alongside the financial results, the programme gave Truma Procurement a defined path for the years ahead. More than 30 initiatives set out the next steps towards procurement excellence, including a new mission statement and shared identity. The Supplier Days then turned that identity into action, giving the team an opportunity to demonstrate its strengths and contribution across the business.

In their words

WHAT TRUMA’S LEADERS SAY

”

The project delivered immediate savings, but it also gave procurement a stronger platform within the business. H&Z worked closely with our team to translate analysis into action through a practical, collaborative approach. Now we have a more precise view of where further commercial and technical value could be realised together with our suppliers as strategic business partners.

Markus Heringer

Managing Director

”

The Supplier Days showed the change in practice. Our team entered the negotiations with a clear strategy, achieved tangible savings and strengthened supplier relationships. It was a positive experience for the team and a chance to show the wider business what procurement could deliver.
