H&Z at Procurement Summit 2024

Event Overview:

The Procurement Summit 2024 took place in Hamburg on June 12th and 13th. This annual event gathers industry leaders and experts to discuss the latest trends, innovations, and challenges in procurement. The summit includes keynote speeches, panel discussions, and workshops, fostering a collaborative environment for knowledge sharing and networking.

Discussion Highlights:

During the summit, H&Z Management Consulting addressed the rising cost pressures and the necessity for sustainable practices within procurement organisations. Jonas Harm, a Partner at H&Z, led the discussion by emphasising the importance of preparing for the EU's upcoming CO2 pricing, which will introduce new cost factors by 2035. He highlighted the need for procurement organisations to integrate these changes into their cost optimisation strategies today. With his extensive experience in procurement transformation, Jonas focuses on implementing sustainable procurement strategies and cost reduction programs.

Sven Steinert, a Senior Consultant at H&Z, contributed by discussing practical strategies for reclaiming cost reductions from suppliers and managing new cost factors. Sven specialises in procurement and supply chain management, digitalisation, and sustainable sourcing practices. He introduced a tool developed by H&Z to compare prices and identify potential savings by examining energy, labour, and raw material indices. Sven also stressed the importance of validating baselines with primary data from suppliers and building a comprehensive decarbonisation roadmap.

The session covered various strategies, including the utilisation of the H&Z tool to highlight discrepancies and savings opportunities, and emphasised the importance of establishing a baseline, validating data, and tracking progress in decarbonisation efforts.

H&Z's Contribution:

Our proposed five-step plan for decarbonisation includes:

  • Establishing a baseline
  • Validating with primary data
  • Building a decarbonisation roadmap
  • Implementing measures
  • Tracking progress

These strategies are designed to lead to significant cost savings and environmental benefits.
