Recilience and sustainability
With a vision to become the global leader in sustainable energy solutions, everything Vestas does revolves around the deployment of sustainable energy solutions. Focusing on resilience and sustainability, Vestas has continued to innovate and adapt to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world. The company's turbines generate clean energy for millions of people worldwide, reducing the reliance on fossil fuels and promoting a more sustainable future.
Key Highlights
In our second "H&Z Morning Briefing", we addressed the myth of conflicting goals between resilience and sustainability. We showed how companies can reconcile both aspects while strengthening their competitiveness and adaptability showcasing Vestas – the leading European wind power company. Our guests had the ample opportunity for intensive networking.
Our Guest Speakers Martina Buchhauser shared a survey by the Procurement Initiative that has revealed a huge so-called “intention action gap": the discrepancy between what organizations say they intend to do (or value) and what they actually do. We often see that companies do have strategies in place that promote sustainability but clearly lack the translation within the company to make a real impact. Whereas the top 10% performers have already created the right engagement and actions to embed sustainability into their decision making. Vestas turned out to be one of those top performers.
Here are some top takeaways
- Procurement is pivotal for change
- There is no role model for sustainability, the best way to predict the future is to create it
- Top management commitment is essential
- Suppliers should collaborate on sustainability, not compete against each other
- Strong supplier partnerships demand leadership and diligence
- Vestas reincorporates wind turbine materials into a circular system
- Green alternatives, like green steel, are vital for net-zero
- Sustainability pairs with digitalization: data transparency and accuracy are key
